Bulgaria/Germany 2010. Director: Viktor Chouchkov
Cast: Yavor Baharov, Radina Kardjilova, Ovanes Torosian, Alexander Sano,

The official Bulgarian submission to the upcoming 84th Academy Awards and a major box-office hit at home, Tilt (as in pinball) is a lively, kinetic, skate-punk Romeo-and-Juliet drama set against Bulgaria’s turbulent transition from communism. Skateboarding pals Stash, B-Gum, Gogo, and Angel survive the final days of the Cold War playing pinball, thieving, and selling pirated German porn on the black market. When Stash falls for Becky, rebellious daughter of a local police captain, it causes trouble for all. After the fall of the Berlin Wall opens up the borders, Stash is warned never to set foot in Bulgaria again. “An entertaining youth-oriented Romeo-and-Juliet saga that also critically addresses the country’s post-revolution changes ... A strong debut for first-time director Viktor Chouchkov, who’s assembled an appealing cast of twentysomethings in a spirited package” (Jay Weissberg, Variety). Colour, 35mm, in Bulgarian with English subtitles. 97 mins.
